I eat very low carb but I’m not a proselytizer like a lot of folks on the internet. My husband eats whatever he wants. I think either of these approaches work. I think we’re going to find out sometime in the future that one specific diet isn’t good for every single person. I think we’re so individual that we have to find for ourselves what works for us. For instance, I never had the keto/Atkins flu. I hear so much about it but I never experienced it. I never get insane craving bread or potatoes (though I’d like to have them very much!) or sugar. Once I was off of it, the craving for it went with it. It might be that people who get the “flu” or intense cravings shouldn’t be on low carb.
I currently average 40/40/20 carb, fat, protein. I notice that I feel better on the higher carb, less fat days. I’ve been giving consideration to a mostly plant based diet. The few days I’ve kept fat to less than 20% I’ve still kept my sugars in range and kept the spikes down.
Thank you for your video.I have attempted both extremes unsuccessfully.I am unable to comply in the long run. I eat high- dense-nutrient. A1c is normal and I check regularly (not every day) and rarely it is a bit above normal. I use different supplements and herbs to help me.Tip: the high-carb low fat uses a specific combination of foods to prevent spikes such as greens with fruits, and lemon and apple cider vinegar with lentils and sweet potato. Amazingly it works. I am unable to keep fat below 15g per day though. I have done intermittent fasting also. I have had diabetes 2 for 14 years now.I am 65.
I was able to bring my A1C from a 9 to a 5.3 in just under a year by loosely following the keto diet. Strictly nothing but water to drink, if it’s processed foods sugar under 10 grams, carbs under 20, and keep the carb count under 50 for the entire day
Search in Youtube Okra Water for diabetic.
I’m currently reading Mastering Diabetes. I’ve been following a keto lifestyle for the past 4 years. I’ve lost 120 lbs on WW over 9 years ago but out some back on. I took off 25 lbs on Keto and found that for me Keto stopped the sugar cravings and I’ve managed to cut my A1C to 5.6. After reading Mastering Diabetes I’m beginning to doubt all I believed with Keto. I will be very interested in your experiment with these two diets. Could it be that keto is all wrong and I should be eating Whole Foods of fruit, whole grains & vegetables including starchy ones? The thought frightens me! The insulin resistance discussion is mind blowing.
I just want to say thank you for sharing your thoughts and helpful information.
I’m 5’4” and weigh 115lbs I’ve always been in the smaller size. I had gestational diabetes w my 3 baby and diagnosed Type 2 at age 56. I’m now 64.
My mom was also thin and was diagnosed T2 at age 67. She was great at following diabetes diets but could never get her diabetes under control. She passed away at 79 from pancreatic cancer.
I’m fearful that I will have the same outcome.
I’ve tried low carb & Keto but like you my craving for bread and potatoes etc eventually my cravings win out.
I only drink plain water no sodas, coffee or hot chocolate
I don’t eat candy or cake
I’m so frustrated. I’m going to read both books you recommended and hopefully can get my 8.4 A1C much lower.
I joined a Facebook Diabetes group but so far most of them are overweight
Thanks again
Sorry didn’t finish my comments I can’t afford to lose more weight or I would have absolutely no energy to exercise.
Thanks again and good luck to all those suffering w diabetes
I’m excited to see the results of your experiments. Maybe after you do them, you could experiment with something in the middle and show us? I’ve done super low carb for the long time in the past and as you said, I felt weak in the gym and began to crave bread and sugars quite badly. I’m now trying to figure out a happy medium. I can’t do keto anymore because the saturated fat really spiked my cholesterol to staggering heights. I think I should do lowish carb but not keto, and lower fat.
Great video. I think you did a very fair and accurate description of the pros and cons of each approach. I used to do low carb myself and never realized how low energy it was until I started eating carbs again. I’ve read many books on diabetes and mastering diabetes is one of my favs, especially the audio version.
Thank you for you kind words and sharing your experience my friend!
I eat a moderately low carb diet (~100g/day) high in lean meats and unsaturated fats. It’s helped me lose over 30 lb since January on my way towards a healthy BMI, and it’s something I actually enjoy and gives me the freedom to eat pretty much whatever I want in the right proportions. Thanks for the video!
Do you use a CGM or test your BG frequently? If your fasting blood glucose is high and your spikes are not too big then maybe basal insulin could help.
I’ve been going keto/ paleo route and it’s working for me
I’m a type 1 and I’ve tried both options and low carb works for me. I don’t have issues with tiredness or the like. The only things I miss is fruit.

It’s about time somebody said this! There is 99% agreement about nutrition. All the experts agree no processed foods, no fast foods, no trans fats, no added sugar…
The only disagreement is between Vegan and Carnivore Keto. And I think they hate each other only because the other side is posting some really impressive results!!! Love your channel.
I cant do plants as they disturb my gut and give me colon bubbles, very painful. I try to stick to keto.
Times used to be very Challenging, I had the worst days of my life living with diabetes, I appreciate you so much Dr Igudia, You have restored me my life that was lost already . Thank you so much for curing me of my diabetes with your natural Herbs.
