I treat my T1 diabetes conservatively. I eat low carb for the most part (salads and chicken or beef + beyond burgers) so I only take fiasp when I occasionally eat a high carb desert. Still honeymooning LADA so no Glargine needed yet.
Great work. We will wait to see your nice recipes. Thank you
i never fully understood why people choose low carb when they are type 1. Is it 1. the same as non diabetic’s reasoning, health /dietary? 2. to reduce bg spikes? or 3. to use less insulin? Or maybe all the above.
I know that it is possible to eat ‘normal foods’ higher in carbs (potatoes, pasta, wheat) without having bg spikes if you use enough insulin and prebolus. I know plenty of non-diabetics do low carb, keto diets I just don’t see the direct link to Type 1.
Hey, can you make a video about what you eat in a day?
it decreases blood sugar spikes and helps when you’re having stubborn highs but you’re still hungry, and it requires less insulin. it’s not required and i’ve never had a doctor or dietitian tell me i can’t eat carbs or that i should eat low carb, it just helps sometimes. it’s also healthy!
Because T1 is a bi*ch. Your insulin sensitivity is constantly flactuating depending on the time of day, your recent physical activity, the climate, and your immune system & sickness etc.
This means that it’s incredibly hard to perfectly dial in how much insulin is exactly needed per specific amount of carbs and also the perfect time between injecting and eating. There is also the factor that it’s incredibly hard to perfectly estimate how much carbs a meal contains, especially when eating out, going to a buffet or eating in a canteen at work etc.
The result is that some days everything goes perfectly fine. You end up without any spikes in your blood sugar, a perfect line and the perfect endvalue you wanted to achieve …however, some other days even the same meal with the same units injected will send you directly into low-glucose levels and huge spikes afterwards without any clue why.
It’s just a lot of work and frustration when your goal is to have perfect glucose lines and values as nothing is ever perfect with a not perfectly predictable system like the human body.
Therefore, I personally sometimes prefer to go low carb to save me the hassle and therefore be able to directly focusing again on work or other things after the meal and not fiddle with correction-injections or juice and sweets to compensate some interim low values…
The chicken tender recipe.. is there a replacement for the almonds like coconut flour/milk for instance ? I’m not nut allergic but for some reason almonds give me terrible stomach ache if I eat them in excess. Yet another excellent video btw ;@)
I’m a huge dark chocolate fan. I’ve found if it’s included in brownie recipes for instance it adds a totally gorgeous chocolate hit with less carbs. I also eat high cocoa content chocolate just a few pieces that hits my chocolate craving but low carb. Add a really good coffee onto that and it’s sublime.
Sounds great! Thank you for sharing!
I am not sure. I need to look into that! I can imagine protein bread crumbs might work (they are also low in carbs)… Thanks for the comment. You have a great point!
I will try to do that! Thank you for the tip!
Thank you so much my friend!
@Linus Bender that makes sense. I give my daughter the same breakfast almost every morning but some mornings the insulin I gave her makes her low and other mornings she goes high. She’s growing and also heading into puberty so yeah, I get wanting to try anything to make life a bit more simple!
Oh what I would do for that cake ;-)! But since some while I am really in to veggies and meat, I try to keep carbs to a minimum.
I think btw that you should start: Cooking with Tom – For diabetic people 1.2.3.4.5 etc… 😉
cant wait to try that chocolate cake for myself!
Bro can I check with you how you are managing these devices when they are prone to get affected… especially in shower and sleeping times? I know patch is one option. But do you take any other preventive steps?
I love your kitchen!!
Hi Tom, as a Type 1 Diabetic, I love your channel.
Little pointer for your new cooking videos. Thyme is pronounced like Time. I can live with the ‘American’ pronunciation of Tomatoes; I can adhere to cilantro but Thyme is Time 🙂
Thank you! My pronunciation needs improvements for sure!
I’ve just eaten and after watching this video, I feel hungry again. Really enjoying your content. Keep up the great work!
Im American and at least were I live, we pronounce it like time too. Ive never heard it said any differently, but that doesnt mean there arent people who say it different.
